Good Jobs Now Canvass Lead
Good Jobs Now (GJN), a grassroots membership based organization that fights for economic and social justice for low-income Detroiters of color, is seeking a Canvass Lead that can play a critical role in rebuilding neighborhood power in the city. We are currently focused on fighting campaigns to:
End mass incarceration and invest in job opportunities
Create affordable, dignified housing for all
Halt climate change and transition to a just, green economy
Create a public school system that is safe and fully funded across Michigan
GJN Canvass Leads will receive extensive training, mentorship, and leadership development and have the opportunity for upward mobility throughout the organization.
Canvass Lead is a full-time paid position. The GJN Fellowship is a 5 month long project.
Under the mentorship and supervision of the Good Jobs Now’s team, the Canvass Lead will be tasked with the engagement, activation and retention of new members that are recruited through the electoral canvass and executing campaign strategy.
Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:
- Timely and aggressive follow up with leads generated by field efforts including one on one meetings to build strong relationships and identify and develop leaders into clear membership roles.
- Building, training and managing a team of dynamic field canvassers
- Supporting an inclusive and respectful work culture
- Mobilize and track engagement of members and activists at various events and field opportunities in database
The GJN Canvass Lead will be connected with other professional development and job opportunities as Alumni of the program.
Requirements and Expectations:
Canvass Leads must:
- Have one to two years of experience leading community or membership canvassing campaigns;
Be effective working with a culturally, religiously, and economically diverse group of partners, members, and staff
Be responsible, timely, and committed to professionalism
Be an effective communicator who is comfortable working with the public, talking to strangers, and asking people to take action
Be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Be motivated to make change
Compensation and Directions to Apply:
Full-time Canvass Lead will receive a temporary salary that will be consummate with experience.
Applicants should have some basic familiarity with social justice issues and a passion for social justice work. Applicants should have basic understanding of field work and enthusiasm for leadership development. Applicants should be prepared for a fast-paced work environment that requires a high-level of autonomy.

The current term for the GJN Organizing Fellowship ends on November 10th.
Good Jobs Now is an affiliate partner of the Center for Popular Democracy Action (CPDA). The successful candidate will receive generous pay and benefits as provided by CPDA. This position reports to Branden Snyder, Executive Director of Good Jobs Now.
