ABOUT MAKE THE ROAD CONNECTICUT: Make the Road Connecticut (MRCT) is a new sister organizationto the highly-effective and long-standing organization Make the Road New York. MRCT is building amembership base in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and has already launched campaigns to advance immigrantand worker rights at the state and city level.

ABOUT THE POSITION: We seek an energetic worker organizer that will support the lead organizer inexecuting a statewide campaign to guarantee a fair workweek for part-time and shift workers. Responsibilities includeoutreach to workers in low wage jobs, creation of a local leadership committee of affected workers, coordination of localactions and mobilization for statewide actions, story collection and training of worker spokespeople, and engagement ofallies across the state to advance this effort.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Organizer will be responsible for:

  • Identifying, recruiting and developing worker leaders

  • Leading worker committees

  • Planning and carrying out actions

  • Working with community and political allies and empowering worker leaders in these capacities

  • Developing and carrying out campaign work plans

  • Effectively communicating with workers through one on one conversations and meetings

    JOB REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking either i) an individual with experience as an organizer or a memberleader with a membership-based worker organizing group and a proven track record organizing in immigrantcommunities, or ii) an organizer with strong references who is interested in growing with the new organization,with at least 1 years of organizing experience, experience organizing in coalition with grassroots, political andlabor allies, worker outreach, strong English language writing skills.

    Candidates in either of these categories should have:

  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice, basic understanding of systemic oppression based on

    race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, and an understanding of challenges facing

    immigrant communities, communities of color, and low-and moderate-income families;

  • Drivers license and vehicle;

  • Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail;

  • A high level of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;

  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations;

  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;

  • Capacity to engage community members one-on-one and run meetings and trainings in Spanish and Enlish
