Detroit Action - Digital Organizer (Detroit, MI)
POSITION SUMMARY: Through a mixture of traditional communication and modern digital organizing that’ll emphasize text and social media follow-ups, the Digital Organizer will advance Detroit Action’s issue campaigns, corporate accountability and electoral strategy for 2020 and beyond.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Organizing Director to build a comprehensive digital program that includes social media, text messages, emails and new emergent platforms to engage residents and bring them into Detroit Action in real life.
Grow Detroit Action’s digital audiences across platforms by posting and talking with members and followers daily.
Planning and executing paid advertising campaigns to increase visibility and engagement for organizing campaigns.
Track and report regularly on key performance metrics to demonstrate improved engagement and growth.
Find potential members and activists online and further develop those relationships through phone, video, and in-person communications to be folded into organizing programs.
Develop written content as needed under tight deadlines;
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and supplement content calendar with Digital Communications Coordinator
Work with the Political, Organizing and Membership Canvass team to identify and collect stories;
Support the vetting and training storytellers to spread their message online;
Help train staff to communicate on issues affecting communities of interest among members;
Other duties as assigned by Organizing Director and Senior Leadership Team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1-3 years of organizing and digital campaigning experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to react quickly to the fast-paced news cycle
Be able to think creatively and outside the box
The Digital Organizer reports to the Organizing Director and works collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors and other partners on a weekly basis to maintain program efficiency. Detroit Action and Michigan Action are projects of Tides Center and Tides Advocacy.
Must be able to lift boxes of training materials.
Able to attend conferences throughout the United States.
Must be able to travel domestically on an airplane 4-8 times a year.
The position is a full-time position that works 35 hours per week. This position is based in an office building in Detroit, MI - The position will be required to work some weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The position may require national travel up to 100% of the time. The assigned workspace is a cubicle in an open and shared work area with a moderate level of noise and interruptions.
About the Organization:
Detroit Action and its sister organization, Michigan Action, are hosted projects of Tides Center and Tides Advocacy. We are affiliate partners of the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) and the Alliance for Youth Action. The successful candidate will receive generous benefits as provided by Tides. The salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $45,000-$55,000.
