The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a full-time Senior Research Analyst.
About CPD + CPDA
The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 45 partner organizations in more than 38 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.
About the Position
The Senior Research Analyst will join CPD’s strategic research team and collaborate closely with CPD’s organizing and policy staff, as well as staff and members of our affiliates. The Senior Research Analyst will define and pursue the research questions that advance our campaigns, create research products that convey our arguments to key audiences, and be an excellent communicator and project manager. This role will develop a range of high-quality research projects, including exploratory campaign research, data gathering and analysis, and campaign materials (including reports and briefs for CPD and our affiliates). The Senior Research Analyst will work closely with the Director of Strategic Research to support fundraising opportunities and to develop and execute a plan to build the capacity of the research department and the research capacity of affiliates.
CPD is currently involved in over 40 active campaigns and projects. Examples of recent research can be found on our website (populardemocracy.org) and include:
Economic Justice & Worker Rights: examined how racial disparities are caused by national monetary policy; examined issues facing low-wage service sector workers including erratic schedules and volatile incomes, forced arbitration clauses, wage theft, and arbitrary firings; and explored predatory Wall Street practices in housing, the retail sector, and climate.
Immigrant Rights & Racial Justice: made the case for universal defense programs for detained immigrants facing deportation; revealed the role of Wall Street banks in supporting the private prison companies detaining and imprisoning Black and Brown communities; exposed the racial disparities in foreclosures; and developed research and data to support divestment from the criminal legal system and investment in resources that truly keep communities safe.
CPD Affiliate Research Support: conducted research to advance local organizing and policy campaigns across the country for housing justice, education justice, workers’ rights, and racial and immigrant justice.
In addition, the CPD Research team supports researchers based at our partner organizations and runs a program to support the development of research capacity across our network.
