The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a full-time Director of Federal Action and Racial Justice.

About CPD + CPDA

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 45 partner organizations in more than 38 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

The Director of Federal Action and Racial Justice will build a practice of taking action as a means to create change in our political zeitgeist, working across issue campaigns to ensure that racial justice is centered, as well as helping to build out our Federal and Local Freedom to Thrive campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage Campaign Engagement for Freedom to Thrive included but not limited to: affiliate engagement, 2020 intervention, and coordination with policy;

  • In consultation with the Base-Building Team, manage communication and activities with a cohort of Black-led affiliate organizations;

  • Manage engagement with the Politics Team to ensure candidate engagement and endorsements center racial justice;

  • Provide thought leadership on racial justice work across the Campaigns Team included but not limited to: panels, workshops, conferences, and social media support;

    • In consultation and collaboration with CPD/A Campaigns, Base Building, Innovations, Political teams and affiliates, oversee design and implementation of federal action strategy and program that forwards our policy wins, builds our narrative and supports our base building;

  • Lead the action program for issues that are not led by any current campaign team (e.g. federal budget);

  • Design in-district program with electeds in partnership with a Senior Legislative Advocate;

  • Supervise a National Organizer (based in DC);

  • Support fundraising needs for the Campaigns Team where the Action program plays a role;

    • Engage as a member of Campaigns Senior Team, which includes communicating to the Justice Transformation Team information shared in this body and to communicate to this body the input of the Justice Transformation Team; contributing to the collaboration among the teams within the Campaigns Team and across other teams in the organization; informing decisions about the structure, function, and priorities of the team.

Job Requirements

  • Preferably at least 7 years experience in campaign strategy and implementation that centers racial justice, designing of action-based tactics, and work with grassroots organizations and national organizing networks

  • Demonstrated commitment to social, racial and economic justice;

  • Familiar with partnering with state-based grassroots organizations on campaigns and base-building strategies that center racial justice

  • Experience in design and successful implementation of large-scale actions on a variety of issues

  • Familiarity in creating strategy and leading national campaigns that center racial justice

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
