Lead Organizer (Bi-Lingual/Spanish)
Churches United for Fair Housing is a grassroots organization that works towards community empowerment through community organizing, youth engagement, and by providing sophisticated social services. CUFFH organizes towards preserving and creating vibrant communities that are not exclusive and are really affordable to working families in New York City.
Reporting to the Network Director and working closely with our team of community organizers, the Lead Organizer is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of all of CUFFH’s organizing activities. This role builds new relationships and sustains existing involvement of our Network members by engaging church leaders and activists from low income and immigrant communities. The Lead Organizer will strengthen the skills of organizers on staff and recruit and develop new member leaders, lead engagement programs, contribute to strategy, communicate and motivate existing and potential members/leaders, and lead pubic actions. The Lead Organizer will have the capacity to develop an individual work plan that best fits their skill set to reach annual organizational goals.
Essential Responsibilities Include
Lead and manage community organizing efforts related to CUFFH campaign activities across our network of churches
Develop and maintain outreach and organizing plans, communication systems, databases and work plans to achieve campaign and KRA goals
Plan and coordinate outreach and organizing meetings to build effective, ongoing participation and to maintain the involvement of CUFFH leaders
Develop and train a team of community organizers to help them grow professionally, and support organizers in building skills to effectively recruit member leaders.
Foster relationships at CUFFH member churches, and identify and support lay-leadership development of our members
Organize and mobilize community members to attend events, rallies and other fair housing campaign activities
Represent CUFFH priorities at coalition meetings and in local and citywide initiatives, to elected officials and the press
Engage CUFFH members to create a community-based vision of our fair and affordable housing organizing efforts
A deep passion for social justice
Minimum of 3-5 years of Community Organizing experience
Knowledge of faith-based organizing is preferred
Fluency in Spanish is required for this position
Strong organizing, planning, meeting/workshop facilitation skills
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and Sundays
Commitment to help grow CUFFH efforts, willingness to share insight and ideas on how to expand the impact of our organizing work, and a desire to uplift our organizational values
Strong communication skills in both English & Spanish
Must be reliable, on time and responsive to communication
Basic computer skills, including Google G Suite and Social Media platforms
Good teamwork skills, high energy and a positive attitude
Salary commensurate with experience.
